Dear diary,
I’m a big fan of the TED Talks ;
they talk about everything. Every video treats a specific phenomenon. These
phenomena can be sometimes wide spread, but in some cases, the speakers talk
about a phenomenon which I didn’t even know it exists and it makes me sad,
because I’m sure some persons suffer from the same issue, the same problem, but
no one is able to read that in their eyes. Today, I watched several videos but
only one caught my attention. I watched it numerous times and held my breath at
the same phrases each time I watch it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1yW5IsnSjo. Leslie Morgan Steiner was a fallen woman. She was
extremely in love with a man who routinely abused her and menaced her. He put a
head to her head uncountable times and she didn’t make a move for a long time. Eventually,
she decided she can no longer take it and escaped. I saw pain in her eyes, but
hope also. Now she’s married and has three children and is happy with her
husband. Steiner addressed domestic violence victims and urged them to stop the hell they’re
living in. I wonder how many women live in the same case as her but never dared
to tell anyone because they know that they’re the ones to be blamed. They’re
the ones who remained silent for a long time and accepted the humiliation. They’re
the ones who accepted to be hurt, physically and morally and accepted to live a
life they don’t even deserve. If you are or you know someone who is living
under domestic violence, please know that no matter what may happen if you dare
to defend yourself, it won’t be worse than what you are currently living under.
